Daily routines especially for younger children play a major educational role in any child’s day. Routines help give a day predictability, however routines need to be flexible and cater to individual needs and interests as well as unexpected daily events. Routines such as meal times, sleep times, toileting, hand-washing etc. are consistent throughout the Centre where possible and applicable, depending on age and individual children, so that there is consistency when children change rooms. Each room has their Daily Routine displayed on the wall. For more information on specific routines, please see individual room booklets. Please be aware that the main part of the routine occurs between 9am and 3pm.
A growing body requires many things – nutrition, exercise, activity and adequate rest. A rest is often needed in order to face the challenges of the afternoon that lay ahead. Regulations state that all children must have a rest/quiet time for no less than 30 minutes. Comfortable beds have been provided for the children’s use at rest time.

At Koala Lou parents send their child’s food for the day. This helps assist families who have children with special dietary requirements, allergies and religion requirements. Labelled daily food and drink are to be brought from home although additional cold water is always available for the children. Meal times should be pleasant occasions that give opportunity for much social learning. Children are encouraged to help set the tables and participate in table discussions and where applicable, learn the rudimentary elements of table manners. At all times, children are required to be seated while food and drink are consumed. Usually one staff member will be seated with the children. Children are required to eat their food in an appropriate order e.g. sandwiches first then choice is offered as appropriate. Where applicable, uneaten food will be returned in your child’s lunch box so that you are aware of what your child has eaten. If your child has any special dietary requirements and/or food allergies, please notify the Director or your child's Group Leader.
Every year we hold many events that all the children can participate in. We have shows come to the Centre and hold fun days like the Teddy Bear Picnic, Colour Week and Crazy Hat Days. We also have a variety of fundraising activities throughout the year for parents to participate in.
Each year we have extra curricular activities taught at the Centre by specialist teachers. Eg. Physi Kids, Dance Along and Ginger Sports. These activities cater for children from two and a half onwards. Please see the Director to find out what extra curricular activities are being held at the Centre this year.
